Our Motto: "Education through Experience”

NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED (NOW, INC.) was formed to encourage, support, and facilitate the pursuit of a higher education by helping to bridge the academic gap between high school and college. NOW also helps prepare students for college readiness. The specific purpose of NOW is to educate students through experience, thus Education through Experience HBCU Tour.

In 2010, committed organizers launched the HBCU Tour Experience.

This Education through Experience HBCU Tour is a culmination of six to seven months of college preparatory workshops. The actual tour includes round trip airfare, ground transportation, lodging, campus guided tours. The tour to visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities is taken during Washoe County School District in Reno/Sparks, Nevada and surrounding areas spring break and is for students in 9th through 12th grades.

NOW has two main activities: Black College Recruitment Fair and the HBCU Tour.

Our tour sets the standard for black college tours, as we have implemented a college preparatory curriculum facilitated by the Washoe County School District (WCSD) to help improve student overall ACT/SAT scores by providing replication and test-taking strategies. Since writing skills are vital for college students, an Essay Writing Workshop is also a part of our program. The writing workshop provides the opportunity for students to improve and polish their writing for college entrance exams and scholarship applications. Essay writing is formulaic, and practice makes perfect! Our alliance with historically black colleges and the WCSD adds to our credibility. We provide a college atmosphere where students share a room with three other participants, daily leadership and personal development sessions, opportunities for the students to understand travel etiquette, self-responsibility, time and money management, and budgeting through a non-stop itinerary.

Mission:

To inspire students to achieve the highest standards of intellectual and personal development through a stimulating and comprehensive college prep program
